♥ YEA! STOCKHOLM FASHION WEEK! ♥ BACK FALL 2013 COLLECTION ♥

I was super excited to see that Style.com was posting up pics from Stockholm Fashion Week for the first time! There's something about those Netherlanders and the way they see the world. They always look new/fresh/untainted, and the models are amazing to see (such a nice change from the regular skinny faces we always look at at every show). The clothes are fun and new, even if they're simple streetwear and the girls (and boys) are hot. Not that I'd wear the clothes from the BACK FALL 2013 collection, but I still think they're cool. I could see this collection in any of the magazines I used to edit and write for. It's a brand I'd be covering (and I might actually pitch a story on). AND I love love love those girls. They are gorgeous. For more, go here.

♥ GUEST BLOGGER MASAYO KISHI & HER IRIS VAN HERPEN SHOOT ♥

Hey darlings....here is the new post from our (now regular Nancy Girl contributor) guest blogger and amazing stylist that I worked with numerous times when I was with Oyster magazine (and others)...MASAYO KISHI...

Happy New Year!

I hope you all is doing well in 2013!  Here is my new work to share with you; finally it's out in the public! This is my Paris shoot which I worked on last year for BIG magazine and irisvanherpen.com. We shot it inside of an old theater, so you can't really tell we're in Paris. Hopefully next time I'll be able to shoot the on location in Paris (where you can actually tell it's Paris).

The photographer is my favorite duo, Iolex. They created beautiful theatrical lighting per usual. Iolex' works are tasteful. Our model Suzie Bird was beautifully androgynous and has the perfect figure for Iris van Herpen.

All the Iris van Herpen pieces I worked with from this collection were heavy but very delicate and fragile at the same time. They were like one-of-kind museum pieces, obviously not easy to carry/handle. You can imagine my preparation in Paris prior to the shoot. It was not glamorous at all.

Iris' collection has been shot on celebrities like Bjork and Lady Gaga and for numerous high-end fashion magazines including  W, Vogue…too many to list…but you can check their blog here. So I was very lucky to have several looks for my shoot.

Actually, I don't get to work with such a creative artistic designer like Iris often for my shoots in New York City. I was very impressed by her craftsmanship, and it reconfirmed (to myself) why I got into fashion back in the day/in the first place. Because a lot of these fast-fashion and fashion e-commerce companies confuse me and make me question if this is my ideal (fashion) industry...I was dreaming about this: how, again, I believe it takes time (as in a long time in a career) to make great creations no matter what you do or make...to reach a certain high level of creativity. How many times/often do you/will you truly impress people with your creativity (and creations)?  This is how I felt at this time.

♥ IT'S MY BIRTHDAY + YSL "SLIM MAN" MENS SHOW VIDEO ♥

I am not going to do my normal makeup post today because I don't feel like doing any work actually...it's my birthday (happy birthday to me!). But I thought for now I'd just post up this newly released video for the SAINT LAURENT MENS FALL WINTER 2013 show. Oh, Hedi. I don't know what to say. Again, this show/collection as a Hedi Slimane show/collection is nice. It's got all the Hedi elements...Tim Blanks called it something like "Slim Man" elements as a pun, and a good one at that. But as a collection for the house of Saint Laurent? I can't see it. I can't feel it. And I'm scared of it. I don't know what they were thinking...was Stefano hemorrhaging money with his work for YSL? I doubt it. Did they think what he was doing was too old? How could it be? Most young girls LOVE vintage YSL. Why would they dislike Stefano's work? I dunno. This is just weird...for a YSL collection. I mean, why don't they just give Hedi his own line again?

See for yourself...and I'll be posting up the makeup stuff tomorrow, most likely! Happy Monday birthday! PS I've noticed all commenting is disabled for all the YSL YouTube videos since Hedi first announced his first campaign. So many people hated it.

♥ SUNDAY MATINEE ♥ THIERRY MUGLER 1995/96 COUTURE ♥

This is the kind of fashion I watched when I was a kid and a teen. I dunno how anyone can look at some of the models and the fashion and the shows now and think they're amazing. There's only a handful of designer and models who are the real deal these days. If you know of these shows, then you'll love watching them. If you have never seen them, then they are def an education...get schooled today, sweets. Have your morning café or tea and sit back and watch the show on Sunday. xxx

SATURDAY SHOW ♥ IRIS VAN HERPEN COUTURE 2013 COLLECTION ♥

Iris Van Herpen is crazy good at what she does and I think she knows it. It's obviously very McQueen....at first notice. But the more you follow this talent, the more you see her in the pieces. I think the closest thing between her and McQueen is the immaculate craftsmanship. When I look at her pieces, I think more of Thierry Mulger..not the Mugler of today but the real Mugler when Thierry himself was designing it (those were the days). I especially thought that when I saw the Couture 2013 collection, and the smiling models. I dunno. I can see these back in the day on Nadja or Linda or Christy, too. (Sunday's post will be all about vintage amazing Thierry Mugler so you can drink your tea or coffee on Sunday morning and watch the Thierry Matinee!)

Also, as a teaser I want to mention that we have another post coming up next week from Masayo Kishi and a fashion shoot she did for a very big magazine with Iris Van Herpen pieces! It's amazing as always, so stay tuned for that!

look at that cheeky stoked grin on iris... :)

♥ GIAMBATTISTA VALLI COUTURE 2013 ♥ FANTASY PRINCESS CROWNS ♥

I already did a post on the Giambattista Valli Couture 2013 show, but I wanted to do a special post on the crowns/head pieces the models were wearing because these pieces really added to the entire collection/look/feel/vibe. They're lovely and fantastical. The dresses would have looked totally different without these pieces. I'd love to find one of these as a trickle-down item or make one myself. Because they are gorgeous almost fashion fantasy princess pieces that would be so lovely to wear on your birthday or New Year's Eve or any special day you want to feel like the princess. I loved the belts and neck pieces, too...but not as much as those crowns. Not all. Click here to see more detail from the collection. (And if you know how to make a crown like this and decide to make one for me and send it to me, I will love you forever!)

♥ ULYANA SARGEENKO COUTURE 2013 ♥ THIS FASHION WON'T BORE YOU ♥

I was so excited to see the new images from Ulyana Sergeenko's 2013 Couture show! She did not disappoint. I have covered her stuff on Nancy Girl before...but sometimes it's a one-time deal where the next show isn't as good as you thought the first one was. But this was as good and even better. I just love her work...I love the stories behind the pieces and the love of fashion. I mean, THIS IS FASHION. I love the makeup and styling. Can't you see Daphne Guinness, a lover of couture, wearing these? I can. Ulyana should also be doing films because her work is just too amazing to only showcase at a show every 6 months. There are so many pieces I love in the show, but I can't post them all here. So have a look here and see the rest...you won't be disappointed! I mean, I loved the Dior Couture show....but I was bored. The dresses and suits were perfect, but I was still bored. I don't think couture should bore you. (I also love the shoes!)

looks a little gaultier...which i like.

VERY WITCHY. LOVE IT.

LOVE THE HAIR, LOVE THE DRESS, LOVE THE SHOES, LOVE THE MAKEUP

♥ GIAMBATTISTA VALLI COUTURE 2013 ♥ FAIRY PRINCESSES ♥

I am in love with so many pieces from the Giambattista Valli 2013 Couture show...And I especially love love the crowns, which I'll do a separate post for because they're so amazing! First of all, I always love what Valli does, but I see a lot of repetition (like Lanvin), so I don't cover it on the blog as much. That's not to say I don't think he's a genius. I always look for vintage and actually own a lot of vintage that looks like some of these dresses with the 3D floral detail. I really esp love the mini dresses, as they seem modern princess girl to me....they're gorrrgeous!

she looks so so chic and simple. but you could do so much with this. i mean, if you were a princess going to the market in our couture mini dress. :) she looks miserable. but i'd be smiling.

julia nobis needs to eat. but she looks like a rockstar in this. it's amazing.

this reminds me so much of YSL. i have a vintage YSL dress that has a print almost identical to this. just imagine a bow at the neck on here. total YSL.

one of my favorite princess looks! i would love to own the dress, shoes, crown!

i have a vintage wedding dress with floral detailing like this. not as much, though. this dress is made for a princess for sure.

oh i love this so much. the entire thing. so much i can't even put words to it...

same for this one. LOVING IT!

i mean...look at this!!!! it's gorgeous!
